Knight Foundation now accepting applications for 2016 Knight Arts Challenge

The Knight Foundation is now accepting applications for the first round of the 2016 Knight Arts Challenge. The Knight Arts Challenge offers shares of an $8 million prize for arts projects in Akron, Ohio; Detroit, Michigan; Miami, Florida; and St. Paul, Minnesota. Projects can be of any art discipline, including theatre, dance, music, writing, film, and more.

The challenge is open to nonprofits, companies, and individuals, and applicants do not need to be residents of the community in which the project will take place. This includes non-U.S. citizen applicants.

For first-round consideration, the Knight Arts Challenge enforces three simple rules:

  1. The idea is about the arts.
  2. The project takes place in or benefits the community in which the Challenge is based (Akron, Detroit, Miami, or St. Paul).
  3. Applicants must secure other funding to match the Knight Foundation grant.

Submissions are one 150-word essay, submitted via the Knight Foundation website. The deadline for first-round consideration is May 2, 2016. Selected finalists will be invited to submit a detailed project proposal for final panel consideration later in the year.

For more information and to apply, visit knightfoundation.org.
